Freedom in the Forest by Rose J. Fairchild

A very short story I wrote rather quickly today. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy!


The wind slid around her face, cooling as it hit the tears streaking her cheeks. Her mind raced around the same idea and she chased it, hoping it would make her disappear. 

Run away. Run into the forest. Run until no one knows you. Run until you don’t even know yourself. 

She ran until her breathing was ragged and she dropped in a heap of liquid exhuastion. Tears continued to stream from her eyes, even as she was too breathless to make anything but choked gasps. When she regained enough breath, she raised her face to the canopy and screamed until her voice broke and her throat was raw.

Her mouth tasted of blood and her body hurt. But worst of all, her heart was broken and she knew nothing could ever repair it.  Continue reading “Freedom in the Forest by Rose J. Fairchild”
