Victory!

How I felt when I reached the end of my first draft!

Good evening Spriggans and Sprites! I accomplished something wonderful today! My husband watched the kids for a couple hours so I could finish the first draft of my ‘Beauty and the Beast’ retelling, “The Rose!!”

Now I will have to edit and refine, but I am excited to do it! It’ll be nice to read it all the way straight through after so long.

My only regret is that I didn’t finish it before my grandmother passed as my Belle-character is based on her and some of the many adventures she had in her life. She read only the first four chapters, though she did seem to enjoy those and the details I’d included just in that little bit.

I just hope that she knows how much love for her went into it. I miss her…but have some really great memories of her to carry with me.

What are you all working on? Have a great night, everyone!

Birthday Happiness

Good morning, lovelies! So, I’ve felt incredibly honored twice this week and just wanted to share with you all how touched I am that two amazing bloggers have shared two of my poems this week.

First, on Saturday, I submitted a poem for publication based off of a prompt for the movie “Funny Girl.” To my delight, it was published!! You can see that one here on this beautiful blog: https://braveandrecklessblog.com/2020/01/18/funny-girl-rose-j-fairchild/

Progress!!

Good evening, lovelies! I got a rare treat today and I am so excited!!

I have previously mentioned that it’s difficult to write with children, but that’s life and I just have to. If I wasn’t so distracted by noise and cuteness it would be fine, but I am, so…that’s that. Continue reading “Progress!!”

Short Stories

The Picnic

Dizzy and heart racing, I raise my eyes and glance your way. You toss me a sideways grin and I tuck my chin to my chest, heat crawling up my face.

Green grapes glow with ethereal light under the touch of the sun as wine burbles into crystal, guided by your strong, yet gentle hands. My cheeks flush again.

My glass glitters in the sun as you hand it to me with a raised brow. I take it and sip. Cool, bubbly wine slips down my throat, pleasant warmth already spreading through me. Is it the wine, or is it you? Continue reading “The Picnic”

A Gift of Beauty

Sometimes I look at myself and lament the fact that I’m not as beautiful as I was before having kids. Exhaustion and constant running around take a heavy toll on this momma. Not to mention I make it worse because I stay up too late attempting to clean up, prep, and find a little “me time.”

But today as I looked at myself and felt that doubt, that hint of disappointment, I realized something. I’m not less beautiful. Not really. It’s not that I lost something. It was simply transferred.

Every mother knows nothing is more beautiful than her own child. So the way I see it, the beauty I felt I had lost has been gifted to my children. They fairly glow with love and light and I’m happy to know that some of that came from me. The rest is a gift from my amazing husband and the genes of our ancestors.

I hope everyone has a fabulous day, and mommas, (and poppas) remember to love yourself because you’ve made your life and the world more beautiful.
